Cette forteresse a \u00e9t\u00e9 fond\u00e9e au V\u00e8me si\u00e8cle par le prince d&rsquo;Anuradhapura, apr\u00e8s avoir tu\u00e9 son p\u00e8re pour lui succ\u00e9der. Ce gentil fils aimant a fui Anuradhapura pour \u00e9chapper \u00e0 la vengeance de son fr\u00e8re, oppos\u00e9 au meurtre de leur p\u00e8re. Il a donc construit cette forteresse sur un piton rocheux, et y a v\u00e9cu 18 ans, jusqu&rsquo;au retour de son fr\u00e8re \u00e0 la t\u00eate d&rsquo;une arm\u00e9e Indienne. Ce dernier a assi\u00e9g\u00e9 Sigiriya jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la r\u00e9dition de son fr\u00e8re, et l&rsquo;a ex\u00e9cut\u00e9 juste apr\u00e8s.<\/p>\n<p>Nous n&rsquo;avons pas fait la mont\u00e9e du rocher, trop ch\u00e8re (50 \u20ac), et surtout trop  prise d&rsquo;assaut par les touristes ! Il y a environ 1h30 d&rsquo;attente, et pour faciliter la mont\u00e9e, des nids de frelons pars\u00e8ment le parcours, et il faut souvent rebrousser chemin pour les \u00e9viter ! Bouddhistes obligent, on ne tue pas ces sales b\u00eates !<\/p>\n<p>Nous avons pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9 grimper sur la montagne d&rsquo;en face, Pidurangala, o\u00f9 le jeune roi parricide et r\u00e9gicide avait install\u00e9 un monast\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>La mont\u00e9e est assez difficile, et prend environ 40 minutes. Les grottes, qui couvrent plus 6000 m2 de surface, sont enti\u00e8rement peintes, et d\u00e9cor\u00e9es de tr\u00e8s nombreuses statues de Bouddhas et d&rsquo;autres divinit\u00e9s. L&rsquo;ensemble est assez impressionnant. Nous sommes presque dans le noir, il y a tr\u00e8s peu de lumi\u00e8re, et il est difficile de se rendre compte de la beaut\u00e9 du site et de la taille de certaines grottes. L&rsquo;entr\u00e9e est prot\u00e9g\u00e9e par un b\u00e2timent qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 construit juste \u00e0 l&rsquo;entr\u00e9e des cavit\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" Demain nous partons vers notre onzi\u00e8me (!) h\u00f4tel, \u00e0 Kandy, \u00e0 un peu plus de trois heures de route.
