Ici, pas de ville. Uxmal est un site Maya tr\u00e8s important, en pleine jungle. Son nom, qu\u2019on doit prononcer Ouchmal, signifie \u00ab\u00a03 fois construite\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Notre h\u00f4tel, construit dans une ancienne Hacienda, le Uxmal Resort Maya est magnifique\u00a0! On y reste seulement deux nuits, mais on va profiter de ce site tr\u00e8s agr\u00e9able. Petite particularit\u00e9 du site historique d\u2019Uxmal\u00a0: il appartient \u00e0 un particulier, qui poss\u00e8de aussi l\u2019h\u00f4tel dans lequel nous sommes. Ce site appartient \u00e0 sa famille depuis des d\u00e9cennies, et l\u2019\u00e9tat mexicain s\u2019en est d\u00e9sengag\u00e9. Ici en effet, on trouve pour la premi\u00e8re fois depuis que nous sommes ici, un peu de relief. Cette r\u00e9gion du Yucatan est paradoxale, car c\u2019est l\u2019une des plus fertiles du Yucatan, alors que l\u2019eau y est plus difficilement accessible, la nappe phr\u00e9atique est ici \u00e0 plus de 65 m\u00e8tres de profondeur. Il y a peu de cenotes ici, et c\u2019est l\u2019invention des chultuns (citernes souterraines) qui a permis \u00e0 la population de vivre ici.<\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;architecture Puuc est caract\u00e9ris\u00e9e par des fa\u00e7ades au niveau inf\u00e9rieur tr\u00e8s d\u00e9pouill\u00e9 et au niveau sup\u00e9rieur plus travaill\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>La cit\u00e9 de Uxmal a \u00e9t\u00e9 fond\u00e9e vers 800 et a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9sert\u00e9e vers 950, probablement apr\u00e8s une intense p\u00e9riode de s\u00e9cheresse. Aucune cit\u00e9 espagnole n\u2019a \u00e9t\u00e9 construite ici, et le site d\u2019Uxmal a \u00e9t\u00e9 abandonn\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>On commence \u00e0 en avoir vu quelques-uns, et celui-l\u00e0 est notre pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9\u00a0! Bien plus riche et d\u00e9cor\u00e9 que Chichen Itza, on a surtout appr\u00e9ci\u00e9 le calme du lieu et l\u2019absence de vendeurs ambulants. Pour une fois, nous avons visit\u00e9 le site en plein apr\u00e8s-midi \u00e0 partir de 15 heures, sous une chaleur \u00e9touffante. L\u2019avantage, c\u2019est que cette heure est davantage destin\u00e9e au farniente au bord de la piscine, et que nous avons \u00e9t\u00e9 tr\u00e8s tranquilles pour la visite\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Le site d\u2019Uxmal est d\u00e9di\u00e9 au dieu de la pluie, Chak, qu\u2019on voit partout.<\/p>\n<p>On entre sur le site directement face \u00e0 un des plus beaux b\u00e2timents, la pyramide du devin (ou du magicien). Elle n\u2019a pas la forme habituelle des pyramides, et est plut\u00f4t ovale. Les sacrifices humains avaient lieu ici\u00a0: les hommes \u00e9taient lanc\u00e9s d\u2019en haut dans les escaliers. S\u2019ils arrivaient vivants au sol, ils \u00e9taient achev\u00e9s\u00a0!
